The Bergen International Festival signature work performed in Reykjavik and Bergen. Grieg's A minor Piano Concerto is often referred to as the Bergen International Festival signature work, and has been performed at practically every festival since its inception in 1953. This year's soloist is Víkingur Ólafsson, a successful Icelandic pianist whose latest album has been widely acclaimed: 'Meet the new superstar of classical music,' was the verdict of The Telegraph.

With international travel restrictions still in place, Ólafsson is unable to visit Bergen as originally planned. In close collaboration with BPO principal conductor Edward Gardner he will perform the solo part from his home city, Reykjavik.

Along with the string players of the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra the Edvard Grieg Kor will perform the Latvian composer Pēteris Vasks's sublime work The Fruit of Silence, which is written over a text by Mother Teresa:

The fruit of silence is prayer.
The fruit of prayer is faith.
The fruit of faith is love.
The fruit of love is service.
The fruit of service is peace.
